The Surrealism movement was a way of expressing the art that is viewed in the subconscience. Creative imagination asserts itself and the shapes used are organic and alive, as opposed to the cubistic movement which had sharp and rigid geometric shapes. It was also opposed to the short lived DADA movement, inspired by the second world war. The DADA movement used negative wit to critisize society, what the Surrealistic movement represented a positive expression.

The above painting is by Salvador Dali and is entitled "Persistance of the memory." This is considered a strange picture by most. This kind of dream-skape backround was an influence on my picture. When the picture was on display, people would come up to Dali and ask, "What is that big yellow thing in the middle supposed to be?" He would simply reply "yes."
